I also see older adults with knee discomfort related to age-associated joint changes, often described as degenerative arthritis. Traditional Chinese medicine discusses these problems using concepts such as qi, blood, and the relationships between the kidneys, bones, liver, and tendons. These are traditional concepts, not the same as a biomedical diagnosis. Joint and cartilage changes, together with overuse, can make walking or squatting uncomfortable. After assessing the person, my approach may include work on the surrounding soft tissues, external herbal applications, and appropriate movement.
The aim is to help ease discomfort and support mobility. Suitability and results vary, so the plan should be based on an individual assessment.
In an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Describe it on the phone and the practitioner will say whether it is worth coming in.
