Transcript Xie Yuan (Ivan) Kong in their own words
I see many patients whose work involves laying flooring, gardening, or other physical tasks. Some develop lower back muscle strain or acute back pain; others have more complex problems, including disc conditions. In my practice, I assess whether manual treatment and work on the surrounding soft tissues may be appropriate, sometimes alongside external herbal applications.
The aim is to relieve discomfort where this approach is suitable. There are limits to what I treat. More serious disc problems may require specialist care, and sometimes surgery. They need the appropriate medical assessment rather than being treated as an ordinary back strain.
In an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Describe it on the phone and the practitioner will say whether it is worth coming in.
