Transcript Xie Yuan (Ivan) Kong in their own words
Over my decades in Vancouver, I've seen many patients with neck and shoulder discomfort, sometimes with headaches. Long hours at a computer or desk can contribute to muscle strain around the neck. In my traditional Chinese medicine approach, I assess the joints and surrounding soft tissues. Depending on the assessment, I may use manual techniques and external herbal applications, with the aim of easing discomfort.
Traditional Chinese medicine describes this in terms of improving the flow of qi and blood. This is my clinical perspective, rather than a guarantee of results. Neck pain, headaches, and arm tingling can have different causes, so appropriate assessment comes first.
In an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Describe it on the phone and the practitioner will say whether it is worth coming in.
