An active claim
Acupuncture is pre-approved for a number of visits, regardless of fault and with no doctor referral, as long as you start within the window. The clinic is a registered ICBC supplier.
Insurance
The clinic is a registered ICBC supplier. ICBC pre-approves a number of acupuncture visits for anyone with an active claim, regardless of who was at fault. This page covers ICBC, MSP and extended health.
General information only. What is actually payable depends on the current terms published by ICBC, MSP and your own insurer.
Three routes
They do not conflict — if you qualify for more than one, they can be used separately.
Acupuncture is pre-approved for a number of visits, regardless of fault and with no doctor referral, as long as you start within the window. The clinic is a registered ICBC supplier.
MSP supplementary benefits give residents who have been approved a limited number of subsidised visits each calendar year, and acupuncture is one of the eligible services. The province pays part; you pay the rest.
Most extended health plans include acupuncture or TCM with an annual limit. How much, and whether a referral is needed, differs from plan to plan.
ICBC claims
Stiff neck, back pain and dizziness are often worst on the second or third day, not the day itself. Do not leave it because you felt fine at the time.
Opening a claim gives you a claim number. That number is what everything afterwards runs on, so the sooner you have it the easier this is.
Acupuncture within the pre-approved allowance can be booked directly — no waiting for a family doctor appointment. Fault does not affect this part.
The pre-approval runs from the date of the accident. Once it lapses you have to apply separately. This is the practical reason not to leave it.
Keep treatment records and receipts. If the claim is ever disputed, those are the most solid thing you hold.
MSP
MSP supplementary benefits are for residents who have been approved for them. They cover a limited number of visits each calendar year, and acupuncture is one of the eligible services: the province pays a portion and you pay the balance.
Eligibility is applied for separately — holding a BC Services Card does not mean you have it. If you are not sure, ask MSP, or call us and we can help you check.
Extended health
Group plans through an employer and privately bought extended health plans mostly include acupuncture or TCM, with an annual limit. How much, whether a referral is needed, and whether the clinic can bill the insurer directly all differ from plan to plan.
Call the number on your policy and ask three questions: is acupuncture or TCM covered, how much is left this year, and is a doctor’s referral required?
Fees
Transcribed from the clinic's own wall price list. A first visit includes assessment time and runs longer than a follow-up.

In an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Yes. Neck and back symptoms appearing a day or two later is common. As long as the claim is still within its window, you can apply under ICBC’s current rules. Report it when you notice something, rather than deciding for yourself that it is nothing.
Yes. This part of ICBC’s treatment coverage does not depend on who was at fault. A lot of people do not know that and lose months to it.
Usually they can be stacked: MSP pays a portion and the balance is claimed from your extended plan. Whether and how depends on your policy — one call to your insurer settles it.
ICBC pre-approves a defined list, and acupuncture is on it. Whether hands-on bone-setting can be claimed, and under which heading, depends on ICBC’s current rules and on your case. Ask us when you call.
Of course. Self-paying patients are treated no differently. Fees are explained up front, and nothing starts until you agree.
Tell us your situation and what numbers you have, and we will confirm the route and what to bring.
